Sheffield City Council has appointed BAM Construction as main contractor for the brand new Mercia School development.
Costing approximately £20 million, the project will see the construction of a new secondary school and sixth form on the site of Bannerdale in South West Sheffield.
BAM, who are working alongside Bond Bryan Architects who have designed the new school – both continuing their successful partnership which has resulted in a number of exceptional education buildings.
Work will provide two pitches that will be up to Sport England standards that the surrounding community will be able to use.
Fencing, retaining walls, planting and both hard and soft landscaping will all accompany the multi-use games area as part of the whole project.
Sheffield City Council’s spokesperson said: “We know that with Mercia’s experienced leadership and Mercia Multi-Academy Trust’s track record in sponsoring outstanding schools, this new secondary school will be the very best it can be, providing an excellent education for children in the south-west of the city.”
Construction will be completed next year, and will open in September 2018.
