New statistics released by NHBC show that the construction industry is building new homes at the highest rate for 10 years.
In the first quarter of 2017, 42,470 new homes were registered, which is an increase of 17% on the number registered in the first quarter of last year.
New homes registered refers to the process of a builder registering either a new plot or home to be built in the coming weeks and months, which is covered by NHBC’s 10-year Buildmark warranty.
The news is positive across the whole of the UK too. For the first time since 2005, each of the 12 regions of the UK enjoyed growth compared to 12 months previously.
Homes in the North East enjoyed a 39% increase in new home registrations in the last 12 months, while London and Eastern regions saw 38% and 31% growth respectively.
And NHBC Managing Director, Neil Jefferson, believes the statistics are encouraging for the construction industry.
He said: “These figures, with growth across the entire country, are clearly encouraging for the sector, at a time when there is considerable demand for new, high quality homes.
“This growth in registrations, in both the private and affordable sector, is welcome news and will result in more newly built homes across the UK over the coming months.”
