After bidding got underway last week, McAlpine have joined the race to secure works on rejuvenating the Broadmarsh area.
They join the likes of Laing O’Rourke and Bowmer & Kirkland, who are also looking to secure the major contract.
The winning bidder will oversee a 592,000 sq ft internal floorspace, which is set to halve in size in order to make way for a car park and bus station. Additional cafes and shops will be developed on both Collin Street and Carrington Street.
The development will also include construction of a fifth cinema in the city, The Light, which is a growing chain – this being its 10th venue in the UK.
The project is now in advanced stages of planning, as enabling work began in January, with plans to commence main construction in the first quarter of 2018.
